Product

The name of our local product is Black Fall which is a very strong liquor, made out of nettles. The men in Blackburn use Black fall to keep themselves warm during the harsh winters. The name “Black Fall” comes from the fact that the drink is mostly made during fall/autumn. The farmers, who make the drink, are working the whole season in order to have enough supply for the long and cold winters. The last few years though the name of the drink has gotten a negative connotation. There has been a lot of deaths in Blackburn caused by alcohol poisoning. The ‘Fall’ now also stands for the many people who have fallen victim to this drink. In order to keep up appearances towards other countries the king of Blackburn has decided to make this drink illegal.

 

Black Fall is sold in old, brown bottles. Because the people of Blackburn don’t have enough money to produce new bottles, the bottles of Black Fall are re-used. Some bottles can be over a 100 years old.

 

Place

Since 2012 Black Fall is sold on the black market. The drink has been made illegal by the king because of the many deaths it has caused. In 2012, 300 people in Blackburn died from alcohol poisoning. But even though the drink is illegal it can still be bought in Blackburn. A lot of farmers still sell the drink.

 

Promotion

There are secret codes to know which farmer sells Black Fall. When a farm has a red mailbox, they sell Black Fall. The government knows about this but they pretend to not know. The government wants to keep up appearances toward the other countries and this is the reason why Black Fall has been made illegal. When they see someone drinking or selling Black Fall on the street they will be charged. But the government pretends to not know the codes among the civilians because Black Fall helps the farmers to get around economically. Black Fall can boost the economy of Blackburn.

 

Price

The price differs between 70 and 200 shillings per bottle (which is between 7 and 20 euros). It really depends on the seasons and on the place where you buy the drink. When you buy the drink towards the end of the winter it will be very expensive. Most of the time the farmers don’t have a fixed price so you can negotiate a price. Be careful when you are a tourist and trying to buy Black Fall. The farmers tend to up their price to others.
